When I saw the forecast for 28th of October I knew I would have to be in the mountains. So I left Wrocław at 3:15 am to arrive in Karpacz just after 5 am. There was no sign of snow at that time. Everything changed within hours… at 7:30 am I was standing on the top of Śnieżka. It was cold and windy up there!
Jizerka is a truly magnificent and peaceful place. In many ways it reminds me of Iceland…

No? Welll, you have to wait till the next winter 😉
Well… at least the astronomical spring, because looking at photos you would definitely say – it’s winter!
It was cold, I mean really cold and windy.
Thermometer showed -20°C, but with the wind chill factor it was around -30°C… a great time for a quick sunset hike 😉

Smrk is the highest mountain in the Czech part of the Jizera Mountains, 1124 meters above the sea level.
It was one of the longest winter hikes I’ve ever done in the Karkonosze Mountains. We walked with my brother about 33 km, from 7 am to 7:30 pm.
It was totally spontaneous.

For the second year in a row I spent the New Year’s Eve hiking!
This time the weather wasn’t exactly in our favour. However there is nothing to regret! I didn’t bring my tripod because it would be useless in a 100 km/h wind and I wanted to go as lightweight as possible. So there was only a 35 mm lens with D610, pushed to ISO 25600 😉
A very quick up and down hike – 6am start in Karpacz (Dziki Wodospad) and 10am finish at the same spot. I didn’t get to the top of Śnieżka, because the path was very icy and full of melting snow. Anyway I was lucky enough to get a few minutes of amazing light!
